Task Cards: Conditional Statements and Conjectures

Show preview image 1

The idea is great and the task cards are well put together. My students did find it a bit overwhelming, but if I had had more time to dedicate to it, I feel they would have liked it more.

Description

Give your students a great set of practice with writing conditional statements and related conditionals and finding counterexamples. There are 60 task cards total!

There are three sets included with twenty task cards each. Each mini-set has its own border design for easy sorting and its own recording sheet. In set "A," students convert a statement into a conditional statement in "if__, then __" form. In set "B," they determine whether each conjecture is true or false and give a counterexample if it is false. In set "C," they write the inverse, converse, and contrapositive of the given conditional statement.

You can use the sets separately or combine them for mixed practice. Recording sheets are included for either option. See the preview for sample cards and a look at the recording sheets.

Some ideas for using task cards in your classroom:
-Project one full-sized task card for full-class practice.
-Print and laminate one large set of cards and have students pass them along and use a separate recording sheet.
-Place the cards around the room to get students moving around.
-Select cards for each student individually to differentiate.
-Choose some tasks to use as an assessment.
-Print 4 cards per page for worksheet-style practice.
